How Do We Keep Knoxville Beautiful?

KKB was founded in 1978 as the Greater Knoxville Beautification Board (GKBB) to help clean up Knoxville before the 1982 World’s Fair.

For almost 50 years, we’re dedicated as ever to making our county cleaner, greener and more beautiful.

Volunteer Cleanups

Each year, we organize and support an average of more than 6,000 volunteers who remove over 100,000 pounds of litter from our roads, waterways and parks! We also manage the Knox County and City of Knoxville Adopt-A-Road programs.

Waste Reduction

Did you know recycling preserves valuable resources, creates jobs and reduces landfilling costs? That’s why we offer recycling resources, including recycling bins, free of charge to anyone who wants to provide recycling at an event.

Environmental Education and Outreach

We also create public education and outreach programs for people of all ages that teach the importance of waste prevention, recycling, litter prevention and environmental stewardship.

Community Beautification

We are proud to organize plantings, build community spaces and other types of community projects that make Knoxville a more beautiful place. From removing graffiti to creating colorful native landscapes at schools, our efforts can dramatically improve a local landscape in a single day.
